About Me

I have taken pictures all my life at one time or another. Like most other people, that was mostly via instamatics, and more recently, of course, with a Smart Phone. My first attempt at photography as something more serious than casual picture-taking was when I decided to buy my first DSLR camera. Compared to my father’s old Pentax (a film camera) this was grand stuff. He enjoyed photography; as it turns out, so do I. In recent years, so many friends and relatives have told me I have a “good eye” and that many of my shots are good ones. I decided to use a web site to share my work with a wider audience.

Over the years I have been influenced by two professional photographers, whose work I really admire. I have never met them, but these role models have been easy to follow and learn from. From Joe McNally, a true master in his craft, I have learned so much about light. The other, Scott Kelby, was instrumental in clearly explaining the fundamentals of all types of photography and the workings of the DSLR camera. Perhaps one day I will be able to meet them.

Many photographers use processing software to improve their shots. But the world isn’t perfect; it has mist and dust and dirt in it. To me, reality is beautiful. I want my photos to reflect that. Most of my shots, thus, are "as is", right out of the camera, except for occasional cropping and leveling.
